Strengths and Assumptions of Naegele's Rule
Naegele's rule is reliable because the vast majority of human pregnancies complete organ development and reach pulmonary surfactant maturity between 270 and 290 gestational days. However, its primary weakness lies in two fundamental assumptions:
- Assumption 1: Every woman has a 28-day menstrual cycle. In reality, healthy menstrual cycles range widely from 21 to 38 days.
- Assumption 2: Ovulation always occurs on Day 14. Even with a 28-day cycle, ovulation can occur between day 11 and day 17.
